Georgia's First District -is comprised of 25 counties extending south of Savannah to the Florida border, west to Cook County, and north to Wheeler County.
Effective November 2006, the 25 counties of the First District will include: Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Berrien, Brantley, Bryan, Camden, Charlton, Chatham, Clinch, Coffee, Cook, Echols, Glynn, Jeff Davis, Lanier, Liberty, Long, Lowndes, McIntosh, Pierce, Telfair, Ware, Wayne, and Wheeler.
Within the First District you will find:
* Georgia's coastline, including the Golden Isles of St. Simons Island (home of historic Fort Frederica National Monument), Jekyll Island State Park, Sea Island (home to the five-star resort hotel, The Cloister), and Cumberland Island National Seashore.
* Military bases including Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in Camden County, Fort Stewart near Hinesville in Liberty County, Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, and Moody Air Force Base near Valdosta.
* Farms meeting the nation's needs for cotton, produce and poultry.
* Major shipping ports in Savannah and Brunswick.
* FLETC, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center located near Brunswick, where more than 70 federal law enforcement agencies including the Capitol police force, Secret Service, White House police and DEA train their personnel.
* The Okefenokee Swamp, the largest swamp in North America, and one of America's most fascinating natural areas.
* Universities and colleges, including top-ranked design school, Savannah College of Art and Design.

* The First District is home to the following literary giants and best-selling authors: Carson McCullers, Flannery O'Connor, William Diehl ("Sharkey's Machine" starring Burt Reynolds), George Dawes Green ("The Juror" starring Demi Moore), and Tina McElroy Ansa ("A Baby in the Family" and "Ugly Ways").
* The First District has also been a background for top films including Academy Award-winning "Forrest Gump." Other movies filmed in the district include Alex Haley's "Roots," John Berendt's "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," "Glory" (starring Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington), "Camilla" (starring Jessica Tandy and Bridget Fonda), "The Legend of Bagger Vance" (starring Will Smith and Charlize Theron),and "Gator" (starring Burt Reynolds).
The First District is comprised of a wide variety of sectors including agricultural, trade, business, industrial, maritime, and military. Congressman Kingston works hard to ensure that all sectors are fairly represented and that the needs and concerns of all are heard.
Tybee Island enjoyed a white Christmas last month when President Bush approved $6.3 million to help renourish its beaches in the 2008 Omnibus Appropriations Bill supported by Congressman Jack Kingston.
A new Veterans clinic is expected to open in Camden County this spring with a new clinic for Brunswick slated soon afterwards. Congressman Jack Kingston is also working with area veterans Eddie Whitted and David Martin who have gathered more than 15,000 signatures urging the VA to place a clinic in Waycross.
